Edging closer to this September will only increase the anticipation for many Ubisoft fans. For those unaware, the publisher previously announced it will be hosting a Ubisoft Forward presentation then. As for what is underway, the firm did not say. However, we already did get confirmation prior to the announcement that the next Assassin’s Creed game will be revealed that same month.
Additionally, many do anticipate that we will receive an update on the upcoming Splinter Cell remake of any sort. But, the game was revealed less than a year ago so it is unsure how much if anything will be shared later. Atop of that, Ubisoft in September 2020 did share it is working on a new virtual reality games for both Assassin’s Creed & Splinter Cell in collaboration with Facebook’s Oculus (Meta).
According to Video Game Chronicles, the latest financial call at Ubisoft reveals that the firm is canceling both projects. Not only that, but the upcoming Ghost Recon: Frontline is also being canned as well, the call reveals.
The last referenced project was a new venture from Ubisoft to enter the battle royale genre. With Ubisoft Montreal’s Hyper Scape closing its doors this spring, the firm attempted to establish itself with the genre using a familiar IP and did so by announcing Ghost Recon: Frontline. The game was said to feature many aspects from the series with 100-player lobbies.
However, shortly after the announcement of the game, Ubisoft in response to the growing backlash to the new reveal shared the game will be going back into incubation to meet the expectations of the playerbase. But as we all know now, the firm ultimately pulled the plug on the project. Noted, this is not the last we will see of Ghost Recon, however.
In a separate report from Kotaku previously, it was said a new Ghost Recon game was in the works. Atop of that, the firm said it and Ubisoft Paris will be dismantling its efforts to incorporate NFTs into the business. You can read the full report by heading here.
