The flurry of PAX East 2016 interviews continue. Another developer we have interviewed was Double Fine/ Adult Swim Games. Headlander is a a retro-futuristic, side-scrolling, action-adventure game set in a world inspired by 70’s science fiction. It is a world of automation, a utopia gone wrong in which all of humanity have transferred their minds into robotic imposter bodies and are ruled by a deranged computer.
Here are our questions:
1.) What is the games main influence on the look?
The developer had a love for 1970s science fiction and wanted to implement it into it their own game.
2.) What was everyone’s favorite part about the game?
People loved popping the head off to traverse through the game and use it to their advantage against the enemies.
3.) How long was Headlander in development?
It has been in development for 2 years but, the concept was around before the actual start of development for game.
4.) Was there any other games from Adult Swim that had influenced Headlander?
Headlander is it’s own game, the games premise is more abstract than the others. The developers made previous titles like Stacking so there’s no real influence for Adult Swim for Headlander.
Headlander is coming to Playstation 4 and PC/Steam.
