For more than two decades, the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) remained the pinnacle of video game conventions. While shows such as Gamescom and Penny Arcade Expo (PAX) were held, the Los Angeles event remained the most prominent among others. In recent years, the show faces scrutiny for being held especially with the rise of COVID-19 at the time. 2020 marked the first year the show would not be held.
In 2021, the event returned with a live-streamed showcase that took place over the span of a couple days. However, 2022 repeated history with its plans – in-person and digitally – was severed this time around. But, CEO Stan Pierre-Louis shared it will be making a return in 2023 with new plans to reinvent E3 as we know it.
According to a new report from gamesindustry.biz, parent company ReedPop is to be responsible for organizing 2023’s E3. The group is already notable for working on other shows such as Penny Arcade Expo, New York Comic-Con, Star Wars Celebration among others as well. “Together, the two organisations will host E3 2023 in its traditional home at the Los Angeles Convention Center during the second week of June.”
The report continues, “The event will encompass both digital showcases and in-person components that will also be open to consumers.” As for scheduling and plans for the official event, details remains slim with information on next year’s show to be shared at a later date. Of course, the event will be returning to the Los Angeles Convention Center.
Elsewhere, Summer Game Fest is to also be held in its own in-person event next year as well. The show is likely to coincide with E3 as both are being organized in June 2023. You can read the full report by heading here.
