After Path of Exile originally debuted on PC as a free-to-play online action RPG in late 2013, it’s seen multiple dev team expansions, and has won multiple awards. Now the team behind Path of Exile is expanding its audience by bringing it to Xbox One this year.
The game, which doesn’t yet have a release date set, will release later this year with all the content from the five major expansions that the PC version received, as well as the upcoming 3.0.0 PC update’s expansion content. Grinding Gears Games’ co-founder Chris Wilson wrote in his announcement post on Xbox Wire that regarding the price model of the game going forward.

“We feel very strongly about the business models of free-to-play games so we made sure to completely separate our monetization from gameplay — there’s no way to pay to improve the or wealth of your characters in Path of Exile. If you have a valuable item, everyone knows you’ve earned it.”

Path of Exile includes microtransactions but is free to download and play so it will be interesting to see how this model fares on Xbox One because it’s relatively out of its element. When we hear about a release date, we’ll let you know so be sure to stay tuned for more coverage of Path of Exile’s release.
