Following months of speculation on what Persona 5 Royal was, we now know that it is an enhanced edition of the original game for PlayStation 4 with new confidants, locations, and story segments. What was more curious, however, was the teaser site that was put up for Persona 5 S, which many had assumed was going to be some form of a Switch port of the base game. At today’s second and final day of the Persona Super Live P-Sound Street concert, the teased game was officially revealed to be Persona 5 Scramble: The Phantom Strikers. While this isn’t the anticipated port of the original Persona 5, it will be releasing on both the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch.
Persona 5 Scramble is a Warriors/Musou game developed via collaboration from Atlus and Koei Tecmo, and the first action RPG in the Persona series. For those unfamiliar with the genre, it is essentially a hack & slash game in which you defeat hordes of enemies. In the case of this game, you will be taking down enemies as Joker with the help of his Persona, Arsene. While Joker & Arsene are the stars of the trailer, you’ll likely be able to choose from a wide cast of characters to play as, though details remain scarce as of now. Whether or not other prominent Persona series trademarks like social links and confidants will be present is also unknown. The trailer ends with a mysterious new girl who will surely play some integral role in the story, canon or not.
We don’t have much to go on other than the short teaser, but for fans craving a new genre for Persona, this may be what you are looking for. No release date was given, and we have no details on when it will come to other regions either. For now, Switch fans will have to settle with this being the Persona series debut to the platform following Joker’s inclusion in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
