In current relevancy to developer PlatinumGames, the grueling wait for anything Bayonetta 3 is the ongoing discussion for the Japanese video game studio. Ever since the game’s announcement predating back to The Game Awards 2017, the coming sequel continues to linger in fan anticipation with little knowledge on the current state for the title. Even more, gameplay is still absent from public eye.
However, PlatinumGames is also underway with another packet of initiatives – Platinum4. Reflecting back nearly a year ago now, PlatinumGames pressed on its journey to become an independent developer through a handful of new projects. For starters by announcing The Wonderful 101: Remastered alongside Project G.G. and later its opening of a Tokyo division. The team used its fourth announcement to display an April Fool’s joke featuring hamsters in space.
But, the team returned shortly after with a straight face to disclose that the developer will be issuing an unveiling for its fifth reveal “soon”. And now close to a year later, the reveal is still on its way. Thankfully, PlatinumGames spares some new details on its “Bonus Stage” for Platinum4 when speaking with Video Game Chronicles recently.
We want to reveal it at the right time, but what we can say at the moment is that this was always intended as the ‘Platinum Four’, so I think that the expectations should be for something extra. That being said, this is something that we’ve had in the works for a while.
We wanted to get this out a little sooner but then the coronavirus happened, which I know is a common excuse, but we hope that when we can start talking about it, it will bring a smile to our fans’ faces and we’ll get a good reaction like, “ah, we love those Platinum guys!”
Atsushi Inaba, PlatinumGames Co-Founder
Additionally, Inaba includes that the reveal – whenever it arrives – is one that many fans should anticipate to be a smaller package. “If we had to choose one end of the spectrum, then I’d probably say it’s something a little smaller in scale.” He continues, “but it’s still something I’m hoping fans will get a kick out of.”
Among other titles underway, PlatinumGames is still shaping the foundation for Babylon’s Fall in collaboration with Square Enix. Last speaking on the title, the team states that the project “is continuing to progress well” at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. You can read the full report by heading here.
