Last week, PlatinumGames disclosed in a tweet that the upcoming reveal for the final project regarding the Platinum4 self-publishing initiative for the Japanese team will be announced the coming Wednesday on April 1. However, despite the oddly framed timing for an announcement, we took the bait assuming that the reveal would be a genuine announcement from the developer.

But finally arriving to the slated date, PlatinumGames made the announcement – and it was an April Fool’s day joke. But regardless of the gag that the studio went out of their way for days in advanced, it is an effort that fans are joking online about following the reveal. In a ‘shocking –err, docking’ announcement, PlatinumGames reveals the next upcoming hit coming to your local arcade!

You can watch the full trailer in the video below:

In light of the announcement, studio Director Hideki Kamiya went to address the intended joke from PlatinumGames on Twitter. “We Platinum Games worked April Fools’ Day again this year… I know it’s a tough time now, but as an entertainer, I’ve wanted you to feel a little brighter… Thank you very much to all of you hamsters who helped us…” (Translation gathered from generated online translator)

Kamiya is notorious for running jokes online previously and it was noted in Rectify Gaming’s prior coverage on Platinum4 that the announcement could be another one of his schemes. But regardless, Kamiya is correct to dilute the current atmosphere that has affected the population globally during this growing pandemic derived from the novel coronavirus. Even if this ailment did not adjust society, Kamiya still would like to take advantage of the annual holiday.

As for the actual fourth reveal that will be residing in Platinum4, the company has yet to clarify when that will actually be taking place to disclose. Or even if the gag was intended to be part of the initative since its reveal earlier in 2020 all along, we will have to wait for further information to be shared.

What was your reaction to the prank that PlatinumGames pulled today?
