While developer PlatinumGames is most associated with franchises tied to major publishers like Sega and Square Enix, the firm has also instructed to be pursuing its own path for independence outside the jurisdiction of these major publishers. Already, the firm announced projects like The Wonderful 101: Remastered and Project G.G. in the past, but there was still more to be unveiled.
With the last project still underway, many presumed that the team’s ambition would to release its Apple Arcade project fairly soon. However, it was discovered nearly a year later on Monday where PlatinumGames reemerged to announce that last year’s April Fool’s Day joke, Sol Cestra, is an official project and to arrive later this year.
Now in a separate, more abrupt reveal, PlatinumGames’ World of Demons arrives today to Apple’s mobile video game platform on Friday. You can watch the launch trailer in the video below:
“Players will assume the role of a samurai leading an army of yokai minions as they embark on a mission against evil. The game is set in a beautiful environment inspired by traditional Japanese artwork with gorgeous stages pulled from ukiyo-e woodblock prints,” the overview on The App Store reads. “Along the way, they’ll meet samurai allies and a menagerie of yokai, each with their own techniques and combo possibilities.
“Players will expand their arsenal of abilities to conquer all foes that stand before them, ultimately facing the fearsome Shuten Doji, lord of all oni. Sharpen your steel as this samurai tale is about to begin.” PlatinumGames also expresses the game’s exclusivity to Apple Arcade, so it appears there is no chance of a port to other platforms.
As for other PlatinumGames’ exclusive projects, Nintendo Switch’s Bayonetta 3 is told to be “going great”. Studio director Hideki Kamiya shares that development is taking its own time due to new systems running its course with impressive results. You can read the full report by heading here.
