Last week and tailing into the following weekend, word broke out that a potential new project regarding PlatinumGames’ The Wonderful 101 could potentially be surfacing thanks to a very transparent picture that was posted on the studio’s Twitter. While fans became very excited, they were also very skeptical of Kamiya due to his previous acts on the internet. However, it was until the next couple of days that new information unearthed online.
Discovering that the Japanese game developer have opened up a Kickstarter. But it was from industry insiders that we gathered more context on the matter: a remaster for 2013 title would be the influence for a crowd funding project. Many speculated this was due to the lacking sales of the initial title on the Wii U.
Now earlier today, PlatinumGames officially revealed the project with a goal for $50, 010, or about 5,435,086 Yen. Upon reaching the first milestone would enable the Switch version of the game to commence. Here is a statement answering for the decision to Kickstart the game:
Although PlatinumGames has been able to grow over the years thanks to the players and our fans, we still haven’t been able to fully realize our long-time dream of self-publishing our own IPs. With your support, we hope not only to bring The Wonderful 101 to a wider audience on a variety of platforms, but also to add some content that will enhance the experience even more! This campaign is your chance to empower us to pursue self-publishing and take our destinies into our own hands.
Since the debut of the game’s campaign on Kickstarter, the project already achieved its $50,010 goal for the Nintendo Switch version. However, the funding doesn’t stop there as the backings continued to grow well into the six-digits. The following benchmark goal for $250,000 has also been reached in a short amount of time which now unlocks the remaster’s entry to Steam as well.
Even more, the counter looks to still keep going as anticipated fans are donating in efforts for the next goal of $500,000. Arriving at the set donation will unlock the game to receive a PlayStation 4 version too. Currently, the Kickstarter campaign sits at $408,472 roughly: I say roughly as the counter continues to hop up in numbers virtually every second.
Interesting enough, there are some goals that have been blurred out after the half million benchmark. Perhaps Microsoft’s Xbox One might be one of the next goals following the game’s confirmation for PlayStation 4? What platform do you want to play The Wonderful 101 on?
The Wonderful 101: Remastered is currently confirmed for Nintendo Switch and PC with no set release date as of yet.
