Since the official teardown of the PlayStation 5 more than a year ago, anticipated owners grew excited to learn how easy it is for the faceplates of the PlayStation 5 to be removed. The simple execution instantly gave hope that customizable faceplates would be a possibility in the future. However, a year later has hardly shown that ambition as of yet.
For one, the firm in expanding color options for PlayStation 5 remains with the DualSense controller offering Midnight Black and Crimson Red Variants. Additionally, The Pulse 3D Headset also got the Midnight Black treatment as well. For the console itself, SUP3R5 did ship a limited-time black console which replicated many aspects of the PlayStation 2.
But recently, Sony did patent for PlayStation 5 faceplates giving hope for the delve into different covers for the newest console. On Monday, Sony Interactive Entertainment revealed five new faceplates are on the way for PlayStation 5.
“Today we are pleased to reveal the newest colors to join the PS5 family of color accessory offerings: Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple. Adding to the previously released Cosmic Red and Midnight Black DualSense wireless controller colors, the latest galaxy-inspired colors will launch globally starting in January 2022 at participating retailers,” said Isabelle Tomatis, Sony Interactive Entertainment PS VR, eSports, Peripherals Marketing and Licensing Senior Director.
Additionally, the same color options are also expanding to the DualSense as well. Alongside the mentioned controllers already available, Nova Pink, Starlight Blue, and Galactic Purple are receiving controller sprays as well. For the faceplates, the PlayStation Store shares pricing to be set at $55 for a set of two.
“These new console covers are beautiful and easy to use — simply remove your original white PS5 console covers and click your new ones into place. The PS5 console covers will be available for both the PS5 with the Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive and the PS5 Digital Edition and are sold separately from the PS5 console and DualSense controller.”
