Predating back to this past June more than half a year ago, Sony Interactive Entertainment presented Gran Turismo 7 at the inaugural PlayStation 5 showcase. Before even getting an understanding of the then-next-generation system, it was made aware that a new game is underway over at Polyphony Digital. However, it was left unsure as to when the title will actually arrive.

Given the impressive footage presented, it was only a matter to when the firms will issue an approximate release date for Gran Turismo 7. Most notably, there was a tip from an advertisement on YouTube in France back in November 2020 which indicated the game is set to arrive sometime in the first half of 2021. However, that looks to be more complicated in achieving now.

When speaking with GQ on Tuesday, Sony Interactive Entertainment discloses that Gran Turismo 7 is now facing a new delay which aims to arrive the following year in 2022 due to development problem inflicted by COVID-19.

GT7 has been impacted by Covid-related production challenges and therefore will shift from 2021 to 2022. With the ongoing pandemic, it’s a dynamic and changing situation and some critical aspects of game production have been slowed over the past several months. We’ll share more specifics on GT7’s release date when available.

Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive Entertainment President & CEO

Delving deeper into the reading, Sony Interactive Entertainment also comments on its dedication to bring more PC titles to the table this year. For one, Bend Studios’ Days Gone is officially arriving to the platform which many players are surely excited to see on their Steam library presumably.

Even more, the outlet also discusses a little bit on the next iteration of PlayStation VR. Given how scarce information is on the coming device, Sony Interactive Entertainment does verify that a 2021 release date is out of the picture. You can read the full report by heading here.
