After the game’s announcement in June 2020, Housemarque’s Returnal remained on PlayStation fans’ radar with its niché approach to isometric, third-person shooters. Atop of the experience that the Finnish developer honed with previous releases, fans are engrossed on how this new, PlayStation 5 exclusive will operate on the latest console hardware. Even more, when the game will arrive.
In a launch promotion for the PlayStation 5, Sony Interactive Entertainment framed Returnal to release in the first half of 2021. While not providing too much context, it did map down anticipation for the game. But, it wasn’t until December during The Game Awards that the publisher unveiled a March release date for the title.
However, the scheduled date became too ambitious it seems for the studio as now the launch for Returnal is now pushed to the following month in April.
“SIE and Housemarque have made the decision to move the release date in order to give the team extra time to continue to polish the game to the level of quality players expect from Housemarque,” the tweet posted on Thursday reveals.
Interesting enough, it is suggested that perhaps the delay was issued prematurely as Sony Interactive did again feature a similar listing for Returnal in a separate promotion. This one being presented for CES 2021, the footage included release information for Stray, Pragmata, and even Project Athia. But, the video was later alter removing the listings completely.
