Sony revealed information regarding its financial sales for its software and hardware along with other interesting statistics for PlayStation 5. Recently it was revealed that half of PlayStation’s player base was still on PlayStation 4 and that remains true with 49 million monthly active users on PS4 and PS5. Although it’s split between the last generation and the current generation, PlayStation 5 still has more gameplay hours.
In the Sony Business Segment Meeting document released publicly, it was revealed the PlayStation 5 has 2.4 billion gameplay hours while the PlayStation 4 is at 1.4 billion. That is a pretty large gap even if the monthly active consoles are even.
Spending has also been higher on PlayStation 5 versus PlayStation 4 with add-on content up 176% compared to PS4. It seems that live service games have been a big plus for spending on Sony’s console.
In other news, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 has sold over 11 million units as of April 20, 2024, on PlayStation 5. The latest PlayStation exclusive has been a nice success for Sony along with Helldivers 2.
