With a favorites backlist that includes multiple installments of top-performing games like Call of Duty and Halo, it’s hardly surprising that first-person shooters (FPS) have become firm staples in any gamer’s repertoire. Especially prevalent on PC, it’s certainly difficult to imagine a more interactive, involved gaming experience than the one you can enjoy when the guns come out.

Whether you use hacks like the IWantCheats aimbots to boost your score or prefer to hone your skills the old-fashioned way, PC-based FPS certainly provide some fantastic fun gameplay, and a chance to get stuck into what makes shooters great in the first place. Namely, they provide you the opportunity to go on full-out rampages and still hone your gaming prowess. But, as is always the case in the gaming world, not all FPS are created equal, and feeling the full benefits of this gaming niche are all about selecting the best new PC releases for your purpose, which in 2022 include –

# 1 – Call of Duty: Vanguard

While it might be a bit of a cheat to include CoD’s Vanguard on this list considering its launch date of November last year, we’re going to go ahead and assume that no one will mind our doing so. After all, this much-anticipated release is guaranteed to continue making waves in 2022 thanks to good old WWII gameplay based on the Pacific, North Africa, and the Eastern front, as well as a much-needed additional installment of CoD zombies. Call of Duty fans certainly haven’t been disappointed by incredibly strong multiplayer capabilities, including a record-breaking 17 multiplayer maps that will see any keen gamer perched on the end of their gaming chair.

# 2 – Halo Infinite

We’ve already broken the rules by adding one 2021 release to this list, so why don’t we carry on as we’ve started by also chucking Halo Infinite into the mix? Released back at the start of December 2021, Halo Infinite is a PC gamer’s nod to this much-loved traditional game after its less-than-ideal Halo 5 launch six years ago, all with the benefit of open-world gameplay, iconic single-player campaigns, and of course, those arena-shooter style matches that everyone loves. Master Chief has certainly proven themselves back on form with this offering, which has received glowing reviews across the field, finally bringing Halo up to the FPS level that diehard fans have always known it could be.

# 3 – Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

We might have already covered one CoD launch in this guide, but things can only get better when we throw another into the mix, right? Already speculation suggests that Modern Warfare 2 is set for launch this fall, and hopes are already understandably high as to what we can expect when that happens. Of course, Modern Warfare has been a firm favorite since its launch back in 2019, so it’s only natural that fans will have steep expectations for a second installment that, according to early reviews, combines a classic campaign and rich story fit to satisfy both single and multiplayer gamers.

# 4 – ExoMecha

It’s hardly surprising that this list has been dominated by big launches by the best names on the FPS market, and 2022 looks set to be a big year solely as a result of that. But, these familiar go-to’s aren’t the only launches worth keeping an eye out for. In fact, set for launch in spring 2022, ExoMecha is also an incredibly promising gamer concept in the form of a free multiplayer shooter that everyone can surely get behind. Set within a futuristic sci-fi world complete with robotic dragons and a unique battle royale setting, the initial gameplay concept certainly sounds promising. That’s especially true when you consider that the developers have focused on creating a more competitive FPS than many contenders currently on the market.

# 5 – Redfall

Jump forward to September 2022, and Redfall also offers a contender for even top FPS launches in the form of a first-person shooter that works around queueable co-op modes and a single character mode that sees a selection of four characters battling vampires and other ghouls for survival. It’s a simple concept that follows a format we’ve seen many before on games including Borderlands, but let’s be honest, it’s a go-to that we all know we can put our trust in without being disappointed!

2022 is definitely a hot year for FPS fans. So, strap in, start honing your skills, and make sure that you’re ready to make the most of it.
