It certainly was not long following the announcement of the Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake that the series’ patient user base responded with some well-deserved criticism for the game. While it is a retouched version of the original 2002 title, the presentation closer reflects a remaster rather than a remake. Developers Ubisoft Pune & Ubisoft Mumbai goes to defend its project stating the firms’ ambitions were to keep the integrity of the initial work.

However, it looks that the strong feedback on the initial reveal did sway the development teams to shift the release for the remake. In early December, a letterhead was posted on the game’s official Twitter account sharing that Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake would be pushed from January 2021 to March 2021 to softened its rougher edges.

But now, March is suggested to be too ambitious for a release now. Another post made on the official Prince of Persia Twitter issues that another delay will be established to Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake with no scheduled timeframe this time.

“Since announcing Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake in September, we saw an outpouring of feedback from you on this beloved franchise. It is your passion and support that is driving our development teams to make the best game possible,” the developers write in the letterhead. “With that said, we have made the decision to shift the release for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake to a later date.

“This extra development time will enable our teams to deliver a remake that feels fresh while remaining faithful to the original.” Gathered from the statement, it appears that Ubisoft Pune and Ubisoft Mumbai both are taking into consideration on the criticisms of the title’s appearance and hopefully will truly rework the used engine for whenever the game drops.

Perhaps the studios could go to include the Nintendo Switch version as well during its extra development time. The port was leaked during the original September announcement for the game, but was never officially featured. The same for the new current-generation consoles as the two are only supported through backwards compatibity.

Are you surprised another delay dropped for Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake?

Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake is coming to Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC; supported via backwards compatibility for Xbox Series X|s & PlayStation 5.
