Project Spark, the game that allows you to create and share games is going offline. Beginning today you can no longer download the game on PC and Xbox marketplace. After August 12, online services will go offline. Without this, you will no longer be able to download assets, other creations, or upload your creations.
If you have bought the Project Starter Kit that was sold in retail outlets you will receive credit on your Microsoft account. Also if you have redeemed a Project Spark code after October 5, 2015, you will also get credit.
Community Manager Thomas Grats from Team Dakota gave input on why this happened.
“This was an extremely difficult decision for our team that we do not take lightly. When “Project Spark” transitioned away from active development last fall, many of our team members moved to other projects within Microsoft Studios. While this means there have been no layoffs at Microsoft, it also means it’s simply no longer feasible to continue the behind-the-scenes work involved with keeping “Project Spark” up and running with meaningful updates and bug fixes, so we have come to this hard decision”
Despite these news Project Spark released a lot of content, including 46 content packs, 16 updates, and thousands of assets. I have personally used Project Spark before and I have seen some amazing stuff, such as other game remakes, animations, and more that entertained me. I’m sad to see it go but hopefully the developers make more great content in the future.
