In the past couple of weeks, there has been an unexpected amount of controversy that continued to stir behind the recent release of Planet Entertainment’s Cooking Mama: Cookstar. For some odd reason, the title abruptly launched which many followers deemed weird, but still decided to pick up the latest entry for Nintendo Switch. However, the game not too long after being available on the Nintendo eShop was swiftly pulled with no reason as for why.

Before the developer or publisher of the game granted the reasoning for the decision to delist the game so suddenly, rumors spilled out suggesting that the developers for the title imbedded malicious software to utilize player’s systems to mine crypto currency. Users online supported the claim by stating that this is evidently clear by the necessary online connection to play followed by reported console crashes from other individuals who played the game.

But in the heat of the moment, a new report emerged that disclosed the entire situation was a ploy orchestrated by Planet Entertainment to spite the property holder, Office Create. Despite the ambitions to ship the game sooner, Office Create instructed that more time be utilized to properly finish the game, an unnamed developer at 1st Playable Productions told Screen Rant.

Systems to mine crypto currency

Instead, the game was greenlit by the publisher and Office Create had to contact both Nintendo alongside manufacturers to halt production of cartridges for retail locations. The anonymous employee urged that the crypto currency mining allegation is false and rather that the game was still a work in progress.

Now in a letterhead posted by Office Create, the firm reveals its comment on the situation at hand: the company reiterates on what was already reported.

Mine Crypto Currency

Unfortunately, the quality of the game builds failed to meet the standards that our customers expect and deserve. Office Create rejected a wide range of deficiencies affecting the overall feel, quality and content of the game. Yet, despite being contractually obligated to correct the identified deficiencies and resubmit the corrected game for Office Create’s approval, Planet proceeded to release Cooking Mama: Cookstar without addressing all of the rejections and without Office Create’s approval.

To cake onto the already imbedded layer of confusion surrounding Cookstar, Office Create went to clarify that the PlayStation 4 version of the game was never greenlit by the company to officially pursue, nonetheless advertise as Planet Entertainment has done previously. “Office Create has not licensed Planet (or any other entity) to create any Cooking Mama games for PS4.”

Although Office Create does not directly comment on the claims of crypto currency mining sourced from the game software, it was discovered elsewhere that happened to not be the case entirely. Rather, the game was poorly optimized according to YouTube SomeOrdinaryGamers. When running a system overlay which displays what components’ status as the software operates, the game is pushing heavily on several tiers of the Switch’s hardware.

When connected online, alike how the game is intended, you can see that the GPU load is consistently edging 90% – 95%. However, when the game is taken offline, the hardware is still pushing the system regardless of its connectivity. Deeming that despite the framed shovelware Cookstar is allegedly inflicting on users, the game is evidently unfinished and improperly optimized.

All in all, Office Create is currently in motion to settle the a dispute against Planet Entertainment on the unprecedented measure to release the work-in-progress that Cookstar is. As for now, it is still unsure when fans can expect the game to properly release for Nintendo Switch,. But there is clarification that the PlayStation 4 version will likely never arrive.
