In the age of COVID-19 and the continued concerns for further spread of the epidemic during the height of the ailment, many video game events found itself closing doors in the betterment of its attendees. Most notably happened to be the cancelling for QuakeCon 2020. In that, the show was the first not to take place in the 25 years since the inception of the annual event.
However, things do appear to be resuming to online alternatives. While the in-person event did not take place, QuakeCon at Home happened. More recently, a similar approach is coming to Gamescom as well. The titular show alongside the Opening Night Live show is to both be held through virtual means as concerns for COVID-19 is still present for organizers.
For QuakeCon 2021, the same fate is to occur as per Bethesda. In a new announcement, QuakeCon will once again be held through a digital format later this August.
We can’t wait to get back to Dallas with our QuakeCon family, but for the continued safety of our staff, the volunteers, and the community, this year’s QuakeCon will once again be a digital-only event. We’ll have all the Peace, Love, and Rockets – remotely.
Understanding the plans for Bethesda and what to take place is left for speculation. Following the completing of the firm’s acquisition by Microsoft, it was disclosed that there will be a summer showcase planned for the months at the halfway point of the year. But, it is presumed the firm will be making those announcements at E3 in June. In that, Xbox is already confirmed to be present for the mid June show.
However, QuakeCon typically holds its own weight of announcements as well. Regarding potential reveals that are possible to take place is for a potential trailer on Starfield. With still no transparent glimpse on the scope of the title, it appears that there could be more details to surface later this year thanks to an update on the trademark.
