Quantic Dream Is Now Fully Independent, Preparing to Self-Publish In Near Future

French development team Quantic Dream as of recent has taken an interesting turn of events regarding the software from the game studio alongside potentially taking on the status of becoming a fully independent developer. It was reported back in August that the team was looking to becoming a “boutique publisher” sometime down the line, but the developer at the time is still in search for the opportunity to do so, studio head David Cage explained.

Now fast-forwarding to this week, Quantic Dream in celebration of the company’s upcoming 23rd birthday of the firm reveals to be going independent. In the post, the team discusses their achievements and working with known faces in film through their projects, but felt to only be touching the surface of the studios full potential.

It wasn’t until the previous minor acquisition of the developer made by NetEase that truly unlocked opportunity for the company; through expanding their current repertoire of projects to the PC platform being the result of the purchase. Then reflecting on the release of 2018’s Detroit: Become Human is what keyed in the possibility for the studio to pursue self-publishing.

This new venture will allow us to make decisions in total independence, and to address the technological and strategic opportunities of next-generation platforms. It will also allow us to help other developers, by providing investment and development support, so that they can fully express their talents. We want to support creators of original projects and help them, in turn, to achieve their vision and offer quality, ground-breaking experiences.

Adding on, Quantic Dream defines this new segment of the company’s life to be more than simply “an evolution – it’s an transformation.” Continuing on to declare that the game developer will pursue new heights with this newly granted freedom whilst still maintaining the fundamental elements of the close to their chest regarding new projects.

Especially now that Quantic Dream having the ability to conjure up the experience they please without an overbearing publisher dictating the direction their work will provide more unique work than ever before. Atop of the independence for creative freedom, this only reiterates the possibilities of witnessing future properties debuting on competing platforms in the coming future.

Are you excited to see what the future holds for Quantic Dream now being fully independent?
