Quantic Dream Shares Forming Of New Studio In Montreal

As per current events for French developer Quantic Dreams, the studio has finally established itself as an independent developer. While the firm previously resided under the PlayStation banner with games like Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human, the studio was never acquired by Sony Interactive Entertainment. But, the team did partake in a minor acquisition by Chinese holdings firm NetEase back in early 2019.

The agreement for Quantic Dream with NetEase resulted with its current repertoire to break any exclusive ties with PlayStation for other platforms. In that, the aforementioned titles eventually slipped onto Epic Games Store. Even more, the trio later on all released on Valve-managed Steam a couple months following.

Now as part of its new venture as a independent studio, Quantic Dream announced this past week to be establishing a new team in Montreal, Canada. Stéphane D’Astous, former lead at Eidos Montreal, is told to be the General Manager for the new Montreal division for Quantic Dream. D’Astous does disclose that work from both studios will be split as the two aim to reach the same goal.

“Our approach is definitely “hand in hand”; we all work on the same projects, which require a great deal of cohesion between the two studios,” . D’Astous tells. Here in Montreal, we’re responsible for developing the game mechanics and all the gameplay. We can only succeed if we work as a team. Quantic Dream co-Founders David Cage and Guillaume de Fondaumiere are told to helm operations at the Parisian studio.

Similarly, we witnessed another French team branch to Montreal as well. In May 2020, developer Dontnod Entertainment announced to be forming a new studio in the Canadian city as well. You can read the full report by heading here.
