Remedy Entertainment comes up with a surprise announcement on April 6th, 2022 as the company has come to an agreement with Rockstar Games to develop a remake for the iconic Max Payne and Max Payne 2: The Fall of Max Payne games.

The partnership is no surprise as the two companies have come together in the past to release Max Payne 1&2 as Remedy Developed & Rockstar published them. With the agreement signed, Remedy Entertainment will develop the games as a single title for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series XlS with no Nintendo Switch release it looks like.

Here is what the Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala had to say about this agreement:

“Max Payne has always held a special place in the hearts of everyone at Remedy, and we know the millions of fans worldwide feel the same,” said Remedy CEO, Tero Virtala. “We’re hugely excited to be working with our partners at Rockstar Games once again for the chance to bring the story, action and atmosphere of the original Max Payne games back to players in new ways.”

The budget for the game’s development will be financed by Rockstar Games as well and we should expect a AAA title production out of this from Remedy. We won’t know when this project will officially release as it’s currently in early development.

Max Payne released July 25, 2001 and the sequel launching October 14, 2003. I guess you can say it was time for a remake of this franchise.

Are you surprised by this?
