This ongoing epidemic that spruced from the growing novel coronavirus sure holds a vice grip on the video game industry and the respected software and information that was planned to be showcased later this June. First, we learned that the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) has been shelved for 2020 due to the pandemic. The organizers did share to utilize the year break to “reinvent” the entirety of the show when patrons return in 2021.

However, this situation has also swayed initially participating companies to withhold new details on approaching titles scheduled for the show. With the inching close debut of the next-generation upon anticipated players this coming holiday season, the future of new games is purgatory of sorts for the time being.

We have witnessed this already with Bethesda that announced the publisher will not be hosting its annual self-named E3 Showcase at all, discarding the possibility of an online event. The announcement also breaks the streak of attending the June event as this would be its fifth year involved with E3. Now a similar tune is being played for Nintendo.

According to a report from VentureBeat, Nintendo is informing partners with the console giant that the expected June Direct – scheduled around the time E3 will commence –is not taking place after all. The outlet tells that Nintendo was in the works of the online presentation previously, but now the chances are less likely due to the escalating concerns that has tailed the COVID-19 virus.

VentureBeat goes on to elaborate on the matters of content that was initially planned to be featured, such as the expected rereleases of fan-favorite Super Mario titles. In celebration of the franchise’s 35th anniversary, it was previously reported that Nintendo would be releasing titles like Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario 3D World with their own respected Nintendo Switch ports. However, even this information might prolong seeing these titles sooner.

Concluding the report, VentureBeat discloses that if an event were to take place, it would be at the end of the summer. Expected around September through chronological speculation since Nintendo typically hosts a Direct during that time. But for no June Direct will surely leave fans unsettled as these online presentations happens to be one of the most popular livestreams that occur throughout the year.

What are your thoughts on Nintendo potentially cancelling its June Direct?
