While it is blatantly evident that Microsoft is continuing to bring a new and immersive experience for users that tread into the territory of backwards compatibility on the next-generation of Xbox, the conversation is less talkative surrounding Sony’s PlayStation 5. The firm has disclosed promptly that there will be support to play preceding generation software on the new system, but it will be limited at launch.

In that, the firm disclosed that users will be greeted with the top 100 titles ranked on PlayStation 4. While it is a lot to gather, the firm did leave fans curious as to what will be for the remaining catalogue of titles on PlayStation 4. Where Sony later shared that the full library will be arriving to the backwards compatible initiative at a later date.

While not primed for launch, it is reassuring to know there will be more to expect from the firm during its post-launch campaign. Now in a recent interview with the Washington Post, Sony Interactive Entertainment President & CEO Jim Ryan discloses that about nearly all of PlayStation 4 compatible titles will be supported on PlayStation 5. About ’99 percent”, Ryan explicitly reveals.

The new information does come to properly situate the feature for PlayStation 5 after observing how little was spared on backwards compatibility. Given that the firm would require additional support from respected teams, it did look to be a strenuous process to offer the full package for PlayStation 5 users. But following the report from this August, the firm did state PlayStation VR would be supported for the console alleviating stress on potential cuts to the feature.

More from the same report, Sony did share that the DualSense controller – although advertised for the next-generation system – will not be compatible for PlayStation 5 backwards compatibility. Instead, users will be required to use a DualShock 4 gamepad to experience prior releases. The same is also said to be enforced for PlayStation VR titles as well.

In other backwards compatibility news regarding PlayStation 5, it was uncovered from a support page posted by Ubisoft that disclosed the system would only support PlayStation 4 titles. In that, PlayStation, PlayStation 2, and PlayStation 3 entries would not be compatible on the next-generation system. You can read the full report by heading here.
