Just last week, developer Respawn Entertainment set up the anticipation for the newest character to the Apex Legends’ roster, Forge. However, it was until the “Up Close and Personal” trailer that we would learn more about this new face entering the battle of The Outlands, or so that is what we would thought. Instead, the starring new addition was brutally murdered on camera during an interview for his upcoming debut for the battle royale.
Segueing to the following launch trailer which gave the unnamed killer some back story alongside revealing what he will be capable to do, as Respawn tends to do leading up to the next season for the game. While this enigmatic character does not share much about himself, we do learn that the Revenant is a contract killer, and Forge looks to have been one of his targets.
Learning more about the upcoming fourth season Assimilation, Respawn has dropped a new gameplay trailer to explain the catastrophic changes that have affected World’s Edge. You can see the new World’s Edge in the trailer below:
Design Director for the game James McCord shares that Respawn’s intentions for these changes not only coincides with the story, but also draws to new approaches when you play each game. For instance, the Fuel Depot has now been occupied by a very large Planet Harvester that Hammond Robotics installed to clear all precious minerals from the world. However, this new addition also affected other regions of the region.
Moving over to Capital City reveals that a large chasm emerged resulting from the deep excavation from the planet drilling ore harvester. Now the fissure has split the city into two with the only ways across being either the bridging building or a zip line. McCord tells that the team wanted to emphasize on certain Legends to use their abilities either to overcome or utilize this obstacle to their advantage. Respawn also explained that falling into the fissure is not an end game: the heat is said to pull you back up, but will you 25% HP from your health bar.
Onto the new Legend Revenant, the trailer sheds some light on this new playable character. Alike in the previous CGI trailer, we learn that the character can scale buildings to great altitudes, and now we get to see that in action as he climbs up a two-story structure with ease in the gameplay overview. The video also introduces Revenant’s ultimate ability which he deploys glowing skulls, like you would for a grenade, and stuns enemies affected by the blast radius.
One little nitpick that we picked up from the trailer that might have went unnoticed is the addition of the CAR submachine gun in one segment of the video. While not an exact replica of the firearm, this is most likely a newer iteration alike that of the Double Take to the newer Triple Take. The SMG was previously dug up in a datamining earlier last year.
