The current Silent Hill landscape continues to expand since this past fall. After the release & success of Silent Hill 2, the series is further expanding moving forward. This October, Silent Hill f is set to release just in time for Halloween. And, Konami & Bloober Team have also greenlit a new remake for the original 1999 Silent Hill release as well.
Other operations connected to the IP is a live-action film. Back in 2022, it was announced that the director for the original 2006 Silent Hill, Christophe Gans, will return for a proper sequel titled ‘Return to Silent Hill’. Following the storyline of Silent Hill 2, it was reported in March 2023 that casting has been issued for Jeremy Irvine (War Horse) and Hannah Emily Anderson (Jigsaw) to star in the new motion picture.
Recently, Cineverse, Bloody Disgusting and Iconic Events in a statement to Deadline revealed that its upcoming duo of horror reboots are releasing later this winter for both Silent Night, Deadly Night as well as Return to Silent Hill. The report adds that original composer Akira Yamaoka is to return to compose for the film.
“It follows James (Irvine), a man broken after his relationship with the love of his life, Mary (Anderson), ends. When a mysterious letter from her calls him back to Silent Hill, he finds a once-recognizable town transformed by an unknown evil. While James desperately searches for Mary, he encounters terrifying creatures and begins to unravel the mystery of what happened to the town,” the synopsis for the film reads.
Cineverse chief motion pictures officer Yolanda Macias says in a statement: “We have been anything but silent about our mission to champion proven IP as a central piece of our theatrical strategy. These two films will represent event viewing that meet fan demand for new releases from their favorite franchises, and an opportunity for them to reach a new audience,” speaking on both Return to Silent Hill & Silent Night, Deadly Night.
