The game gets fun when you find your groove but at times you’ll end up getting frustrated since it gets too difficult and I feel some gamers will get mad enough to not touch the game for a while.

When I first stepped into 101 Ways To Die by just looking at the menu I felt like I was back in Splosion Man from the Xbox 360, it just had that feel right away. You play assistant to mad scientist Professor Splattunfuder who is a scientist, inventor, and weapons manufacturer of questionable sanity. The core purpose of 101 Ways To Die is not to have an interactive story, nor to have an ever-evolving open-world environment; the core purpose of this game is to have fun while killing things.
Gameplay
101 Ways To Die has different objectives for every mission. They either give you magnets, bombs, traps, and more, obviously, your objective is to kill one of them in a certain way. That’s what they call a graduate objective, or they also have a master objective. The reason why it is important to do these two is because you want to get more stars to move on into the game. When you’re playing you release the Splatts but sometimes you can only let one get out and the other has to die. I find the gameplay to be slow if your are someone like me who is impatient sometimes you’ll get crazy because from what I’ve played there is no way to speed it up.
There are 4 separate Labs in the game they are called, Basement, Bio Zone, Control Room, and Sector Zero. For each one, you’ll need to have a certain amount of stars to go forward so this is why it’s crucial to do the missions almost perfectly. Before the start of each level, you are presented with an overview of the possibilities that lie before you as this setup phase is all about planning how to use your environment to maximize the carnage. As you go forward the game gets more difficult, the game has a total of 30 levels.
As you will eventually notice in the menu there is a vault and in it they show all 101 recipes that you have unlocked. It basically shows the different kinds of deaths you made so that’s one of the other goals you shoot for when you’re playing the game obviously.
Visually the game looks very good it has that cartoon/comic look to it which I like and find unique. The way the game flows is smooth I feel and I think the small team over there did a great job making the game look very good.
Achievements
If you’re an Xbox One achievement hunter I’d rate this medium since it takes a lot of time and strategy to get all the stars and to get all the recipes. Other than that I found most of them easy at first.
After you complete the game I don’t know where else you go but that is something you’d expect with this game. The game gets fun when you find your groove but at times you’ll end up getting frustrated since it gets too difficult and I feel some gamers will get mad enough to not touch the game for a while. If you’re a puzzle gamer this is a game for you.
