Gaming headsets have continued to evolve over the years and there are many options for gamers to choose from and at times it can become overwhelming. Corsair has continued to enhance its peripherals for players and they were kind enough to send us the Virtuoso MAX Gaming Headset to review and give our impressions.
You may be reading our review because you are unsure about whether to purchase this headset. The price may be a significant factor in your decision, and you likely want to learn more about its features. Let’s dive into the brand-new Corsair Virtuoso MAX Gaming Headset.
Keep in mind we have the headset for Xbox with most of our impressions being based on our Xbox experience.
Sound Is Excellent
As soon as you put on the headset, you will not only appreciate its comfort but also become immersed in its cutting-edge technology once you connect it to your console. When I first put on the headset to play Black Ops 6, it felt like I was in a completely different world. Its state-of-the-art Graphene drivers produce spectacularly clear and precise audio, broadening the highs and lows of every soundscape.
This headset includes Dolby Atmos Spatial audio support, which enhances the audio experience by making conflicts, conversations, and cutscenes more immersive. On PC you’ll be able to download the Dolby Access app to take advantage of this feature. This feature will also work on Xbox Series X.
Additionally, its active noise cancellation effectively eliminates distractions, allowing you to fully focus on the gaming audio and gain a competitive edge over your opponents.
Whether you’re enjoying a video game, watching TV shows, or listening to music, you’ll quickly discover how premium the audio experience is with the Virtuoso MAX. Yes, I’ve done all those activities with this headset as well.
Omni-Directional Microphone
Another excellent feature of this headset is the omni-directional microphone, which captures your voice with broadcast-grade clarity, picking up sound equally from all directions. Staying on topic with the microphone, what I love that Corsair did here was the option to completely remove it from the headset so you don’t have to worry about mistakenly keeping it on. There’s also the option to mute as well with just the click of a button.
One aspect that I find particularly frustrating with premium headsets is the limited adjustability of the microphone. Often, it stays fixed in one position, making it difficult to position it to my liking. However, this microphone is fully bendable, allowing for customization to suit your preferences. Additionally, it features a light at the end that indicates whether it is active or muted, which I believe is an underrated feature.
Comfortability & Long Lasting Battery
We love two things about wireless gaming headsets: long-lasting battery life and comfort. The Corsair Virtuoso MAX succeeds at doing both of those things. The headset lasts up to 60 hours between charges allowing you to go for that one more round you keep promising to your friends.
I’ve been using this headset daily for a week straight during my review and I haven’t had to worry about it dying on me. As for the comfort, it’s amazing with its premium aluminum build and memory foam cushioning. This headset is designed perfectly to fit around your ears allowing you to play for hours without feeling uncomfortable.
It’s also worth noting the overall build of the headset is strong.
What Each Button Means On The Virtuoso MAX
Looking at the Virtuoso MAX there are several buttons and plug options on there. What do they all mean?
There is a Wireless Mode Switch, an Action Switch, and a Custom Button which you can customize using the iCUE Software. There are also rings on the side of each earcup where you can lower or raise the volume. There’s a USB Type-C Port to charge the headset.
What’s inside the Virtuoso MAX Box?
Along with the headset, you’ll receive the wireless transmitter and the USB-A to USB-C cable where you can plug it into your PC to perform updates or to charge the headset. I would also like to compliment how premium the packaging feels when you get this product as it comes in a special case which I haven’t seen for a premium headset like this.
Corsair iCUE Software
As with all other Corsair products, the Virtuoso MAX offers customization options through the iCUE software. This allows you to adjust audio settings according to your preferences. For instance, if you want a bass boost, you can enable that feature, or if you prefer the immersive experience of a movie theater, you can use the corresponding preset. Personally, I’ve been using the FPS Competition preset, as it aligns well with the type of games I play most frequently.
There’s also the option to customize the colors that are on the side of the headsets. You can’t have a gaming peripheral without having the RGB option, but the Virtuoso MAX doesn’t focus too much on that.
Verdict: Make The Purchase
Overall, The Corsair Virtuoso MAX exceeds expectations with its comfortability, audio quality, customization options, and multi-platform support. While the $329 price seems steep, it’s worth every penny making it the best premium gaming headset on the market. Corsair has outdone itself here.
I strongly recommend buying this gaming headset this holiday season whether it’s for you or as a gift for someone else.
