One of the most interesting games of the year might just be Date Everything from Sassy Chap Games and Team17 Digital. This game lets you explore a world where even the most ordinary objects hold romantic potential, for example, the Microwave, the Hamper, the Couch, the Bed, and a lot more. You couldn’t believe what you may fall in love with.
You get equipped with Dateviator glasses that are a prototype for the company that you work for. They should show up at your door in a box in a very mysterious way. Once you acquire the Dateviator glasses, your journey in Date Everything has only just started.
Before I played this game, I wondered if there was really that much to do. I was completely mistaken! In Date Everything, there is a wide variety of activities, from talking to various dateable objects to solving numerous Roomers for Maggie.
Great Dialogue
Date Everything is full of great dialogue across dozens of characters. Sass Chap Games made sure to have some of the best voice acting in the business, including Felicia Day, Ben Starr, Laura Bailey, Troy Baker, Ashley Burch, and a ton more. I was blown away by the quality of dialogue and how you interact with each character.
You have the choice to start a positive relationship with characters by choosing the correct answers or questions. Or you could have a negative impact on others by not agreeing with what they like, and so on. The creativity behind each great is fantastic.
For example, by using your Dateviator on a box of Holiday decorations in the closet, a character named “Holly” comes out. Another example is using your heart on the shower, and “Johnny Splash” is the character that appears.
Gameplay
It’s tough to say if Date Everything has very engaging gameplay. It’s definitely a relaxing experience, nothing too stressful aside from getting certain dateable characters to like you. Essentially, it’s just reading a ton of dialogue and clicking the A, B, X, Y buttons and moving around the house, finding true love with other objects.
I found the overall gameplay to be amusing in a positive way. Many of the different characters you meet have clever names and outfits that match their personalities. The creativity behind Date Everything is impressive, and I truly appreciate everything about it.
Visuals
One of the drawbacks of Date Everything is the visuals. While it’s difficult to criticize the game too harshly—especially given the effort put into designing the various characters—walking around the house reveals a rather basic aesthetic. This is acceptable, though, as we don’t expect a game of this nature to have AAA level graphics.
The art behind the characters is great, but the overall visuals are just average, and there’s nothing wrong with that. This game is full of content to discover.
Verdict
Overall, Date Everything offers a refreshingly unique experience, packed with clever humor and witty dialogue. While it may not be the most visually striking game, its charm and creativity more than make up for it. I never imagined that everyday objects could be so hilariously dateable—until this game proved otherwise.
