Summary

Overall a great game and it’s worth the money.

Release Date – April 29, 2016
Platform – Xbox One (Reviewed), PC
Developer/Publisher – TreeFortress Games
Price- $9.99

When I first turned on JumpJet Rex I got that old school gaming vibe of the art style and the music the game has. Also when I first stepped into it I kind of found the intro to be funny with the little storyline of ‘Dino-nauts’ which is replacing astronauts since the game takes place in space and you’re a Dinonaut. If you’re a fan of old-time games then JumpJet Rex is a game for you.

Gameplay
When you start the storyline it’s a pretty basic level you start on since there are guides that say to tap A repeatedly to be able to jump on the ledge,  hold B to butt drop, X to dash, Y to float up, hold LB and RB at the same time to swing your body at enemies which is useful as you progress. Another part of the game I like is not only to finish the map/level the fastest but to collect as many coins as possible. Once you keep on collecting coins from each level and when you play it over and over again they will add up so you can buy attachments for your character such as a Ninja Turtle hat.

As you progress through the game it gets very difficult and you will realize you’ll need to get 3 stars on a lot of the early levels because you need certain stars to go further into the game. To get 3 stars you have to complete the level, complete it without dying, and beat the time they give you. In order to complete a level you have to go through every ring in the map or else something will not open up to progress to the end. It’s almost like a speed running game which I like and it actually gets me sweaty at times. Of course, if you want to complete the game you have to get through bosses, in order to reach them there are these sections of levels separating each other, and in order to reach the next wave I guess you can say you have to fight a boss. I found fighting the first boss very difficult but it’s very possible to beat him it may just take you a few tries. Not only is JumpJet Rex single player you can also play Co-Op and there is also an Arena and Race mode.  This is a game I’d rate in my top 10 indies of 2016 so far.
The visuals of the game I like because it reminds you of the older games in the past, good mix of music with it as well and I think the game plays very smoothly, it’s a very easy game to get used to.

Achievements
The achievements in JumpJet Rex have some challenging ones and some will involve getting stars, defeating bosses, doing combos, getting an x amount of coins, etc. So I’d rate this game at a medium-hard for its achievements.
