Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus is a captivating dark fantasy detective adventure crafted by the creators of the Danganronpa series, that offers plenty for mystery-solving enthusiasts to enjoy. Set in the perpetually rain-soaked Kanai Ward, a city ruled by a powerful megacorporation, the game plunges players into a world of secrets and intrigue. Taking on the role of Yuma, a detective-in-training, you team up with the mischievous spirit Shinigami to crack unsolvable cases and expose the truth hidden within the shadows of the city.

The story revolves around a detective agency filled with Master Detectives, each possessing unique abilities, called Forensic Fortes, that give them an edge in cracking open complex cases. Yuma, despite his trainee status, embarks on these investigations with the help of his eccentric and ever-present spirit companion, Shinigami. The dynamic between Yuma and Shinigami provides much of the game’s charm, balancing the dark atmosphere with some light-hearted banter.

The gameplay flows between real-world investigation and supernatural action sequences. Yuma explores Kanai Ward, talking to witnesses, investigating crime scenes, and gathering clues—known as “Solution Keys.” Each case presents its own set of challenges, from uncovering the identities of mysterious figures to piecing together cryptic evidence.

One of the standout elements of RAIN CODE Plus is the “Mystery Labyrinth.” Once enough clues have been gathered, the investigation culminates in this otherworldly realm where the mysteries take on physical form. These labyrinths are filled with puzzles, traps, and obstacles that test not only Yuma’s deductive skills but also the player’s reflexes. It’s a thrilling and fast-paced sequence that turns detective work into an action-packed battle of wits.

The game’s combat-like system, called “Reasoning Death Matches,” is a unique addition to the detective genre. Here, Yuma faces off against a “Mystery Phantom,” a figure that attempts to obscure the truth. Armed with the Solution Blade, players must slash through the lies and deceptions of the phantom using the clues they’ve gathered. The mix of quick reflexes and critical thinking in these sequences keeps players on their toes.

Forensic Fortes play a significant role in both the investigation and labyrinth sequences. The Master Detectives accompanying Yuma have abilities like “Postcognition,” which allows them to view past events, or “Disguise,” which helps them impersonate others. These skills are essential in uncovering hidden evidence and gathering testimony that normal detectives wouldn’t be able to find. Each Master Detective has their own personality and backstory, adding depth to the characters you meet along the way.

The Plus version of the game introduces additional content and improvements that fans of the original will appreciate. Visually, the game has been enhanced for 4K compatibility, and overall performance is smoother, making exploration and battles more seamless. A new gallery mode lets players enjoy the game’s stunning cinematics and atmospheric background music, which is a welcome addition for those who want to revisit certain moments without replaying entire sections.

One of the highlights of the Plus version is the introduction of five new substories that focus on different Master Detectives. These chapters offer more insight into the characters that help Yuma throughout his journey. For instance, “Charisma Killed the Cat” delves into Desuhiko’s intriguing charisma, while “The Near-Death Detective” explores Vivia’s life and near-death experiences. These added stories provide fresh perspectives and enrich the overall narrative experience.

Subquests also add to the game’s depth, as players can help citizens in need and fulfill special requests scattered throughout Kanai Ward. These side missions aren’t just filler content—they provide insight into the city’s corrupt underbelly and often reward players with valuable Memory Shards. These shards unlock secret memories between Yuma and the other detectives, offering glimpses into their relationships and personal histories.

Master Detective Archives: RAIN CODE Plus is a compelling blend of detective work, action, and fantasy that keeps players engaged from start to finish. The dark narrative and complex mysteries are perfectly complemented by fast-paced sequences and deep character development. With the added bonus of new content in the Plus edition, including the extra subchapters and performance upgrades, the game stands as a must-play for both mystery enthusiasts and fans of the Danganronpa series. If you’re ready to step into a world of endless rain and unsolved crimes, RAIN CODE Plus offers an immersive and unforgettable journey.
