The Nintendo Switch 2 is only a month old now, and the selection of controllers remains thin across all third-party companies. However, PowerA has released three different Advantage Wired Controllers for the Switch 2, coming in three different colors. We got our hands on the black version of the newest third-party Switch 2 controller.
The PowerA Advantage Wired Controller features Hall Effect Modules just like all other controllers from the company. It features contact-free magnetic sensors in the thumbsticks to provide a more fluid pro-level feel and help with precision and longevity.
Another great feature of the PowerA Switch 2 Advantage Wired Controller is that you can map the buttons via the PowerA custom software to your liking. It also features the C Button, which is mandatory now for any Switch 2 controller. It also has all of the other buttons that we all remember from the original Switch.
The one negative about this Switch 2 controller from PowerA is that it’s strictly a wired controller, meaning that you cannot use this wirelessly at all. But that also helps bring down the price compared to the Pro Controller from Nintendo, which is $85.
I played Street Fighter 6 and Mario Kart World using the Nintendo Switch 2 PowerA Advantage Wired Controller. I would say it’s very responsive when playing either of these games, and the sticks are smooth for what it’s worth. My only other issue is the button placement. The Start, Select, Capture, Home, and the C Button are all on the bottom row, which can be inconvenient when you have to make a fast selection.
Inside the packaging comes with a 10 ft. USB-C cable gives plenty of space for players to play in their most comfortable spot in their bedroom, living room, etc.
Overall, if you are not looking to break the bank on a brand-new Switch 2 controller, the PowerA Advantage Wired Controller is a great option for only $40. We know this is only the start for this company, and there will be more in the future, most likely including wireless options.
