Review: Sympathy Kiss

5/10

Summary

Sympathy Kiss is a game that’s all about the details. From the way the characters interact with each other to the small touches in the game’s art and sound design, everything comes together to create a cohesive and engaging experience.

Sympathy Kiss is a visual novel that’s got an interesting tech design backstory. With its unique setting, fun characters, and engaging story, it’s a decent visual novel, but compared to other visual novels, it’s not one I feel in love with personally, and wouldn’t be a game I’d recommend for the $49.99 USD ($69.99 CAD) AAA price-tag it comes with.

Developer – IDEA FACTORY/ DESIGN FACTORY

Sympathy Kiss is a game that tells the story of a young woman who has just started a new job as a designer at a mobile app company called Estario. She’s finally getting used to her new role and the routines that come with it when she’s suddenly asked to switch departments and join the product team for a failing app that’s slated to be discontinued.

As she switches into this new role, she finds herself surrounded by some of the most highly qualified (and highly eccentric) men Estario employs. She’s tasked with working together with one of them to revamp the app and get it back on track.

The game takes place over several chapters, each of which focuses on a different aspect of the app’s development. The player must make choices that will affect the outcome of the project, as well as the protagonist’s relationships with her colleagues.

One of the most interesting aspects of Sympathy Kiss is the way it portrays the inner workings of a tech company. The game is full of details about the design and development process, and it’s clear that the creators did their research.

The game’s art style is also worth mentioning. It features beautiful, hand-drawn illustrations that bring the characters and their office environment to life. The protagonist’s facial expressions are particularly well-done, and do a great job of conveying her emotions.

One of the things that sets Sympathy Kiss apart from other visual novels is its focus on the workplace. Most games in this genre focus on romance or fantasy, but Sympathy Kiss is all about the daily grind.

The game’s cast of characters is also worth mentioning. They’re all well-developed and have their own unique personalities, quirks, and motivations. The player’s partner, in particular, is a fascinating character, and their interactions with the protagonist are some of the game’s highlights.

Sympathy Kiss is a game that’s all about the details. From the way the characters interact with each other to the small touches in the game’s art and sound design, everything comes together to create a cohesive and engaging experience.
