The current catalogue of projects under California-based developer Riot Games points towards the notorious League of Legends universe and the subsidiary titles that have spawned from said world that the American studio has created this past decade. And now reaching the 10 year celebration for the globally known MOBA, Riot announced that a new genre will be delved into from the team.

Revealing Project A, a tactical first-person shooter that delves into an array of different characters, abilities, and competitive gameplay. While this might be a new journey the studio is taking with an FPS shooter, Riot shows to fully embrace this new project and shares to bring “years and years” of planned content just like with League of Legends.

Executive Producer Anna Donlin shares Project A to be set on a “near future Earth” and to host a diverse cast of playable characters equipped with different abilities to continuously change how the game plays. Among all the early development footage shown, Donlin goes into a fair amount of detail referring to the constant problems players of the genre face when playing competitive online matches.

Issues such as bullets not registering and ‘peekers advantage’ are some of the hardships that Riot looks to tackle when introducing Project A to the masses. Donlin reveals that the studio has picked up quite a few well-invested developers in the first-person landscape, but ensures that the team will not only work on reinnovating the genre, but also squash some of the straying bugs that current plague FPS games still.

Even going as far to share that Riot Games also pursues protocol for cheaters in Project A: a new initiative that will track if unfair players are using foreign software such as aim bots or all hacks to help preserve an honest experience when playing. This new system to prevent inconsiderate players from getting the upper hand is said to be imbedded in the game since the start of development.

Project A is currently listed for PC with no aimed release window.
