While it’s no news that January would welcome yet another selection of seven cars into the Australian race-dream that is Forza Horizon 3, it was great to get confirmation that the long-anticipated and highly-whined-for BMW i8 would be among the seven. Today, the team at Turn 10 Studios are launching the Rockstar Car Pack.
The Rockstar Car Pack has a wide selection of cars, from track-intended downforce monsters to trophy trucks, to hybrid supercars and yet another Skyline. Let’s start with the models included this month. January brings with it the 1972 Ford Falcon XA GT-HO, 1987 Nissan Skyline GTS-R (R31), 2014 Ford #11 Rockstar F-150 Trophy Truck, 2015 Volvo V60 Polestar, 2015 Radical RXC Turbo, 2015 BMW i8, and 2016 Bentley Bentayga.
Obviously, there’s only one Rockstar car, but all these cars are rockstars in their own right. The Ford Falcon is an odd four-door race-ready sedan with a history of being illegal in Australia for dangerously high speeds. The Skyline (R31) is a maintenance car, helping Nissan to continue race-level performance in their manufacturing lines. The F-150 Rockstar Trophy, with its bowed front axels and victory in the Baja 100, will be a proud, 850hp addition to any valley- and mountain-crawling collection. Polestar is Volvo’s racing division, and with only 80 ever made and each having 345 horsepower, this four-door would make any family road trip an epic sprint. Radical’s RXC Turbo is another track-toy for fans, as it is held to the road by as much downforce at top speed as it has horsepower (hint, it’s 2,000). The Bentley Bantayga, sharing a name with a peak in the Canary Islands, is a car that many will only ever see the backseat of, and drivers now have the chance to be the chauffeur / racer of their dreams.
Finally, we come to the popular star of this month’s car pack, the BMW i8. The i8 has an all-carbon fiber body so it’s as light as it is streamlined. It’s also got an interesting duo of engines: an electric front-wheel system paired with a 1.5-Liter turbocharged affair handling the rear wheels. As with other Car Packs, you can pick it, or any of the composite cars, up individually for $0.99 for individual cars, $6.99 for the whole pack, or as part of the Car Pass for $29.99. Once the pack launches, Turn 10’s John Schommer will be showing off the cars on Forza’s Twitch and Beam channels today, so if you’re not sold yet, go check the stream out.
