The speculation for the next Nintendo Switch whether it is the so-called ‘Switch Pro’ or the next generation for Nintendo’s console has continued. According to Digital Foundry, a mid-generation Switch upgrade was once planned, but the focus shifted to working on the next generation.

This was said during Digital Foundry’s weekly podcast, DF Direct Weekly.

This is what John Linneman said on the show: (Thanks to Nintendo Everything)

“So I think at one point internally from what I can understand from talking to different developers, is that there was some sort of mid-generation Switch update planned at one point and that seems to be no longer happening. And thus it’s pretty clear that whatever they do next is going to be the actual next-generation hardware. I don’t think it’s going to be 2023.”

It will be interesting to see if the Switch brand stays for Nintendo’s next generation project since it’s been very successful since its debut in 2017. Everyone will be watching after the Wii U had an underwhelming launch trying to repeat the success of the Wii.

We have seen both Microsoft and Sony have pro versions of their own consoles which are considered “Pro Upgrades” and that is what we would assume the next Switch would be. The latest Nintendo Switch to join the family was the OLED Model that features a larger and crisp handheld screen.

Could we expect the next-generation Nintendo Switch in 2024? Nintendo is always full of surprises.
