Following the break of alleged detail regarding DLC coming to Rockstar Games’ Red Dead Redemption 2, the user that disclosed the information has come clean to share that they are unaware of the current plans for the western title. Stating “There is no dlc for Red Dead Redemption 2 or remake of the first game as far as I know.”
This applies to both the now debunked alien content expansion as well as the rumored Red Dead Redemption remake that was planned to hit modern hardware. The user then goes to share that he used this ploy to test the waters for how news breaks regarding rumors in the video game community online. Seeing that his lie began to break headlines on major outlets, he felt the need to be honest before truly disappointing the handful of readers.
Late-2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2 quickly became one of the most well-received titles for the year with how little time the follow-up prequel had compared to other game’s that released prior last year. Now more than half way through the first year of the title’s release, fans have scoured every inch of the open world western and are already hungry for more content to be added to the game.
While there is the multiplayer portion with Red Dead Online, fans have soon grew tired of what is currently available and eventually were bothered by what isn’t available compared to the story mode. Though Rockstar Games is promising a corral of new content with initiative to play online in the five counties, that is still in the horizon for an unspecific time later this Summer.
However, according to a recent rumor that spawned on Reddit, the first piece of story-related downloadable content has been detailed to bring something fresh and modern to the turn of the century. The unnamed poster before their claim stated to having “a friend who is one of the environment artists over at Rockstar,” clarifying the alleged studio employee to being their source for this leak.
As well as sharing ahead of the meat of the matter that what will be discussed treads spoiler territory and those who read ahead have been warned. Anyway, the leaker details that this new DLC is already well into development, roughly in the middle of the process, claiming that the player will be in control of Arthur once again. For those who already played through the main campaign, it’s no news that Arthur passes away and the remaining epilogue of the game is carried out through the shoes of John Marston.
This means that the potentially coming DLC will have to take place sometime before he dies, similar to how the Undead Nightmare content expansion played out for Red Dead Redemption in 2010. The unanimous Redditor then points towards aliens to be the main focus for the DLC, even referencing to the UFO Easter egg that players have stumbled upon where an unknown aircraft breaks through the skyline.
Closing the post, the user announces that the DLC is planned to release sometime in Q1 2020, which takes place right at the start of Spring next year. We already should be aware that this is a rumor and should be taken with extreme criticism until officially announced, but when reflecting to the DLC for the first title, the launch timeframe could be very plausible. Undead Nightmare came out within the first year of the Red Dead Redemption, so just a bit more over the one year anniversary for the successor does suit for the content to land.
A year before Red Dead Redemption 2 released, Rockstar Games shared that the developer had no plans to bring any story-related content to Grand Theft Auto V and plans to continue pursuing GTA Online. Which did leave room for speculation that the latest western will most likely have a story expansion when compared to its urban counterpart.
Do you think the coming DLC will include aliens or do you have something else in mind?
Red Dead Redemption 2 is out now for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
