It has been accepted now, but thinking a few years ago, it would be outlandish to consider that Ubisoft would take a year break from releasing an Assassin’s Creed title. Alike Activision is and currently still does with Call of Duty, Ubisoft on the other hand decided after the release of Assassin’s Creed: Syndicate in 2015 that the team would space releases of the ongoing franchise by skipping 2016. Then in 2017, the release of Assassin’s Creed: Origins would be the same deal until 2019.
However, things went according to plan ahead of the publisher’s expectations as Ubisoft Quebec who developed Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey was ready to release the Ancient Greek title during that hiatus the following year. Ubisoft again announced that the next year, this being 2019, that there will be no release of Assassin’s Creed and will put time into a launch later in 2020.
While Ubisoft Montreal quietly worked on the unnamed next Assassin’s Creed installment, word broke out of an alleged new title from the Canadian studio which would take place during the time of the Vikings. Initially, this leaked from a former Ubisoft Concept Artist whose work was discovered and titled ‘assassinscreedragnorok’, which ultimately gave away the setting. Even more, a report later on was published disclosing the project’s presence through a separate Ubisoft title.
Reported by Kotaku back in April, a poster was discovered in the then-recently released title The Division 2 of what looks to be a God derived from Norse mythology wielding the notorious Apple of Eden. Atop of other thrown around rumors that surfaced prior, News Editor Jason Schreier states that two sources familiar with this year’s title does involve Vikings for the game’s foundation.
Now just in the first week of 2020, a listing allegedly appeared for the unannounced title. According to Reddit poster BrownyOfficial, the user found game listed on GameStop Italy when on vacation in the country. Here is the image provided:

Taking into consideration that there is some tangible evidence suggesting the game will be set in the Viking Age from the unearthed concept art and the later teaser in The Division 2, this listing could possibly be the last piece to solidify its presence at Ubisoft. However, there are some red flags that truly stick out to paint this listing fraudulent or doctored to appease to the hyped fans. One is that the presell code for the listed game is exactly the same as the established code for Watch Dogs: Legion.
Another contradictory aspect to the supposed finding is that the user does not source the listing with a link to the Italian storefront despite them claiming to bookmark the page elsewhere on Reddit: the listing is said to have been removed following the initial post. Even more, a separate user shares that they managed to conjure a mockup in a minute if that helps with this argument.
Perhaps this is legitimate as we are more than certain that the coming Assassin’s Creed game is set to launch this year, as said in the listing. Additionally, the page also reveals a possible ‘Mjolnir Edition’ which was not mentioned in any prior leaks; the titling however matches the setting which does raise an eyebrow for legitimacy, but this is only speculation.
It will be an interesting thing to witness whenever Ubisoft does announce this year’s Assassin’s Creed title seeing that three other titles will be releasing much later into 2020: Gods & Monsters, Rainbow Six Quarantine, Watch Dogs: Legion. Only time will reveal what the publisher has planned for their approaching lineup.
What do you think about this new listing for Assassin’s Creed: Ragnorak?
