Discussion of the Activision-owned console mascot Crash Bandicoot has anted-up quite a bit the past few months regarding a new title to release in the coming future. Dating back to February, a new game surfaced online of what looked to be a mobile release from Candy Crush studio King. The images provided at the time presented to be an endless running experience as you play the fan-favorite character with expected in-game purchasing and unlocks.
However, another discussion has surfaced more recently regarding a new installment for the upcoming lineup of systems slated to arrive at the year’s end. According to @capitaorumor on Twitter, the user shares that a new game has been in development for the past three years and discussion of an exclusive partnership between Activision and Sony is underway.
“There’s a new Crash game on the way. It’s been in development for 3 years, and soon the marketing campaign (by Activision) will begin. I was told it would be accompanying PS5 advertisements. There may be some kind of exclusivity, but that has not been determined yet.” (Kudos to SNRUB on ResetEra for translating to tweet.)
Regarding what this game could be exactly has already been revealed by Activision during a previous earnings call made by the publisher. Back in August, Activision shared that the firm holds ambitions to continue paving the way for more nostalgic remakes to arrive in future releases. Seeing the success of Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy and the following Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled, it was expected that Activision would continue pursing more revamped rereleases.
However, when depending on the credibility of the leaker himself, it is unsure if there is any tangible proof on the matter. When writing for Combo Infinito back in late 2018, he claimed that the PlayStation 5 would be properly revealed that coming February in 2019. But as we know it, the console was not announced until that same month a year later showcasing just the logo for the next-generation unit. So for understanding the works undergoing at Sony, it happens to be inconsistent for this instance unfortunately.
But who knows, this might have been one slip up that just so happens to be connected to this new emerging rumor. Only time will tell on the matters with the new systems expected to be showcased in the coming weeks as shared by speculation passed by Niko Partners’ analyst David Ahmad. For now, take all information as conjecture until officially addressed by either Activision or Sony for the time being.
What do you hope this new potential Crash bandicoot game might be?
