Over the weekend, players online have been raving about some of the hottest releases that dropped for the market, Animal Crossing: New Horizons and Doom Eternal. Despite the continuing concerns that spiraled from the escalating COVID-19 pandemic, these two new entries have set a very positive path for the market as both are leading in sales in the United Kingdom, new reports share.

According to the GfK, New Horizons especially is the highest leading title this past week. Even more, id Software’s sequel also holds up high ranking second on the charts for the United Kingdom.

Going into further detail, Animal Crossing: New Horizons pits to be the most successful retail release for the franchise, toppling the previous sales of the Nintendo 3DS release of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. Giving a rough estimation, New Horizons this launch weekend alone is already leading to be 3.5 times more successful in sales of its 2013-released successor. This is only considering the physical releases for the game as online projections will not be disclosed.

Elsewhere, independent video game analyst @BenjiSales on Twitter predicts that the release so far is only the tip of the iceberg as more success stories are to be told later on for New Horizons in the coming months.

On the other hand with Doom Eternal, the game only received one-third of record physical sales for this weekend comparing to Nintendo’s latest billboard release. In contrast to digital sales which would answer for its placing this week – Bethesda unfortunately does not list online benchmarks for public viewing alike Nintendo.

Again, BengiSales crunches numbers on the player number metrics disclosing that despite the lacking number of players in comparison to New Horizons, Doom Eternal does dominate in contrast to both its 2016 predecessor alongside other popular entries that released under the publisher previously. Stating that “DOOM Eternal would be the biggest Bethesda published launch since 2015.”

The analyst goes on to share player count collected from Steam which reveals that Eternal actually blows the 2016 game out of the water by three-times the amount of the first game in its first week.
