Back in October of 2016 it was revealed that Universal Pictures will be pursuing an film adaptation of Epic Games’ Gears of War. With not much information paired with the announcement, excited fans were left hanging until more detail on the movie will be released.
Following to earlier this June, in an interview with gaming outlet GameSpot, wrestler and actor David Bautista confessed his desire to play Gears of War protagonist, Marcus Fenix in the upcoming film. Telling the gaming website that he has been pursuing the role for years and to play Sergeant Fenix is a “dream role”.
Now recently according to entertainment outlet TheWrap, the writer for the videogame film has been decided. Screenwriter for 2016 action film Collide and 2017 xXx: Return of Xander Cage F. Scott Frazier has been picked for the Gears of War motion picture. Which would work perfectly for the genre of film the series would be striving for.
Despite the reception of recent game-based films, more continue to hit the silver screen as this among an handful of films that are on the way like Five Nights at Freddy’s and Metal Gear. This year alone we witnessed Tomb Raider and Rampage in theaters with lower, yet expected, ratings for both films.
There’s still no expected time frame for the announced Gears of War film. But later in 2019 the fifth installment for the game’s series, Gears of War 5 is expected to release for Xbox One and Windows 10.
