Dating back to just last month in March Canadian game studio Sabotage, the team responsible for The Messenger, revealed on Spring Equinox the next title that the developer will be hunched over for until 2022. Announcing Sea of Stars, this turn-based RPG tells the story of Sabotage’s expanded universe dated before the team’s 2018 platformer.

However, instead of partnering with Devolver Digital to publish the game, Sabotage instead resorted to crowdfunding on Kickstarter where the announcement took place. Within the first few hours of the game’s reveal online, Sea of Stars swiftly rose to its asking benchmark goal of $94, 829 and continue to receive support.

Even more, the game has continued to receive more financial sustenance as the following listed goals and their respected rewards were met such as additional dungeons, in-game cinematics, and the new game + alongside a separate ending for the game. Now in a new announcement, Sabotage will be receiving support by Yasunori Mitsuda, the composer for Chrono Trigger, who reveals to be working on the game’s soundtrack.

As seen in their previous game, by adding new systems and ideas to classic formulas, Sabotage Studio breathes fresh, new air into their work. Impressed by the respect they show for past games while at the same time giving players new ways to have fun, I found myself wanting to make a game with everyone at Sabotage Studio.

Noted, while Mitsuda’s addition to work on the game’s OST surely is a milestone in itself, the Chrono Trigger producer will be working alongside the already appointed Composer Eric W. Brown, or his stage name Rainbowdragoneyes. Atop of his work on the soundtrack for Sabotage’s first title, Brown is also involved with Mega Man-inspired rock group, The Protomen.

Again, while the funding for the title has been exceeded by nearly six-fold, Sabotage elsewhere in the announcement revealed that a final stretch goal will be posted in the coming future. While not going into specifics, Sabotage shared that the final reward for Sea of Stars is something that was aimed as post-launch content, but will be a gift for backers instead.

Are you excited that Yasunori Mitsuda will be involved in Sea of Stars soundtrack?

Sea of Stars is scheduled to release sometime in 2022 for consoles and PC.
