For many beloved PlayStation first-party franchises, some are remaining a selling point for the new console generation that is the PlayStation 5. Namely Ratchet and Clank, Gran Turismo, and God of War are some entries that are to proceed leading forward for unique releases. However, other franchises cease to be as time proceeds only leaving the memory of what was before.
For one, that is Killzone. The series will being a prominent pillar in Sony’s marketing for the PlayStation 2 leading to the launch of the PlayStation 4 remained silent since 2013 with the release of Killzone: Shadow Fall. However, a follow-up or a new installment never seen the light of day in more than half a decade. Instead, we witnessed developer Guerrilla Games pursue new endeavors like the very successful Horizon: Zero Dawn.
Now with a sequel, Horizon: Forbidden West, now scheduled to release later in 2021, that leaves fans questioning if the Killzone series is ever returning. In that, the game’s official website seems to answer that question for use. Pointed out by industry analyst Roberto Serrano, he reveals the Killzone website has officially retired.
“Dear Killzone.com visitor, The official website for the KILLZONE franchise has retired,” the site reads upon entering. “Going forward, visitors to Killzone.com will be directed to PlayStation.com. While this change doesn’t affect the online multiplayer modes, player statistics or ranking data for KILLZONE MERCENARY and KILLZONE SHADOW FALL, it is now no longer possible to create or manage clans in KILLZONE SHADOW FALL.
“We apologize for this inconvenience. Thank you to Killzone.com’s many fans and visitors throughout the years for their enthusiasm and support. Sincerely, Guerrilla.” Some fans go to believe that Guerrilla Cambridge ceasing to be in operation is the direct result for the website folding. But, it looks that Guerrilla Games is moving on to new IPs and more ambitious projects, best said by Serrano.
Elsewhere previously, Serrano also issued a statement in regards to the Infamous website – a domain for another Sony Interactive Entertainment property. In that, he believes another game is to arrive following the release for Ghost of Tsushima with the website being renewed for the coming future. You can read the full report by heading here.
