Back in November Warner Bros. debuted the upcoming live-action film, Detective Pikachu to the masses. With fans eager to see a full CGI film based on one of Nintendo’s biggest franchises: many didn’t know what to think after their first glance of some iconic Pokemon like Charmander, Jigglypuff, and of course Pikachu.
Some can agree that the monsters from the Pokken universe adapted to real life is just as frightening as the few glimpses from the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog film as well.
Recently in an exclusive from The Hollywood Reporter, the entertainment outlet has revealed that the sequel for the yet to release Detective Pikachu film is already in the works. And the information shared has revealed that 22 Jump Street writer Oren Uziel will be writing the script for the following film.
Since we are about five months away from the first movie to open in theaters, to already plan for a succeeding film is a little soon, don’t you think? Especially with the reception of the first trailer alone still leaving fans unsure if they would even go see Detective Pikachu when it hits the big screen, they might be getting ahead of themselves. Overall, it is still exciting nonetheless to have another live-action Pokemon film since fans have been patient for one the past two decades.
To add on from Uziel’s work, he is currently working on the upcoming film adaptation for Sega’s Blue Blur and the forthcoming film Men in Black: Universal. And previously was a writer for The Cloverfied Paradox and 22 Jump Street.
Detective Pikachu is hitting theaters on May 10, 2019.
