Serious Sam 4 Ships For PC And Stadia This August, Xbox & PlayStation In Tow For 2021 Release

The Serious Sam series surely has been on a hiatus for practically the majority of this current console generation. The last we heard from developer Croteam was back in 2013 with the Serious Sam Collection which shipped uniquely for Xbox 360. But with how close the game was to the then-approaching Xbox One and PlayStation 4, both systems never received the bundle of beloved titles.

There did happen to be reports of listings for the game well over a year ago to ship to modern console hardware, but those findings never came to fruition. More recently this past April, the Serious Sam Collection did resurface with its debut for Stadia as a Stadia Pro free title. Now, fans can expect to hear more on the series as the next installment has been announced.

In a new reveal trailer, publisher Devolver Digital shares that Serious Sam 4 will be shipping this coming August for PC and Google-owned Stadia. You can watch the announcement trailer in the video below:

“Humanity is under siege as the full force of Mental’s hordes spread across the world, ravaging what remains of a broken and beaten civilization. The last remaining resistance to the invasion is the Earth Defence Force led by Sam “Serious” Stone and his heavily-armed squad of misfit commandos,” the synapse in the trailer’s description reads for Serious Sam 4. “Croteam returns with a high-powered prequel to the Serious Sam series that scales up chaos to unprecedented levels.

“The classic Serious Sam formula is revamped by putting an unstoppable arsenal up against an unimaginable number of enemies that requires players to circle-strafe and backpedal-blast their way out of impossible situations.” Returning back to the discussion of console version, we do have an understanding regarding that for the approaching fourth entry for Serious Sam.

According to Kotaku, Devolver Digital clarifies there will be an Xbox One and PlayStation 4 version of Serious Sam 4 following the PC release this coming August. “The game is still coming to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 after its period of exclusivity is over with Stadia.” With the amount of time implied for the unique release on the two platforms later this summer, it is questionable to suspect why there is no discussion for the later approaching Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 also.

If we could suspect that the exclusivity agreement between the platforms and Devolver Digital is timed for a year roughly as most partnerships align with in this particular situation, why not share details on the next-generation version as well. By then when the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions are out in 2021, the new hardware will have already established a foundation in the market.

How long have you been waiting for the Serious Sam 4 announcement?
