Fans who have been hungry for the upcoming expansion for Yacht Games‘ Shovel Knight with King of Cards DLC expected to drop in the coming future, there is a new game underway by the American developer. But rather than the studio being behind the monitor creating the new title, Yacht Games will be publishing it this time around.
Revealing Cyber Shadow, the Ninja Gaiden-esque title set in the future where “the world has been taken over by synthetic lifeforms,” the description for the new platformer reads. From fast-paced maneuvering to slicing your way through the inhabiting robots, the new title already has my attention.
Yacht Games shared a little history behind the upcoming title as the creator, Aarne “Mekaskull” Hunziker have already been developing this title for a couple years now, he never sought to look towards a publisher when inching closer to finishing the game. Revealing that Yacht Games were one of the few exceptions as already being a huge fan of the studio’s landmark platformer.
Cyber Shadow shows true to Shovel Knight as a prime inspiration for the era of games it captures with the title’s 8-bit look. Hunziker explained to the studio about influence towards the game:
“Cyber Shadow to us as an NES-style game that had the level design principles of Mario, the skills and action of Ninja Gaiden, the enemy designs of Contra, and the dark visual aesthetic of Batman.”
The upcoming title will be playable starting today at the Penny Arcade Expo held in Boston, Massachusetts alongside the approaching expansion for Shovel Knight. Cyber Shadow will be priced for $14.99.
Cyber Demon is listed for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC, but currently there is not set release date.
