The showcase for SkateBIRD during Nintendo’s previous Indie World back in December gained some momentum following the reveal for Glass Bottom Games’ coming project. The title also happened to be featured for Steam’s titular Game Festival that same month for users to sample the upcoming title for the one weekend.
Originally slated to arrive this coming fall season in late 2020, the developer has come out recently to disclose that SkateBIRD has now been pushed into 2021 due to underestimating the amount of time required for development. The team shares that the game is financially sound, but explains that the extra time will be used for a full-blown story mode.
The game is taking longer than planned due to normal iteration stuff. For instance, we’re gonna go for a story mode! Like an ACTUAL story mode, not the findable tapes side-story we’d originally planned. Then pile on there that at least my productivity has halved or more because of – you know, everything outside right now? – and it’s best to kick the can down the road.
Scrapping its initial intentions for a “findable tapes side-story,” Glass Bottom Games will continue to work hard to bringing this new envision to the game later on next year. Studio founder Megan Fox tells that development can expect more help with her partner joining development to work on quality assurance and 3D art as well.
The team has also shared to be involved with a studio familiar in porting games to other platforms and tells to be working out an agreement to assist in development stretching to other systems. While what hardware in particular will be added later on, we are aware that the game will at least ship to PC and Nintendo Switch when the game arrives later on.
Ending the update post, Fox explains that fans can expect the first wave of new content that will be added to the game in the coming month. She explains that the feature will specifically showcase the new mission system that will be included into the game from this recent announcement.
