Those that lead the development of the third studio in Call of Duty’s yearly cycle Sledgehammer Games, both Michael Condrey and Glen Schofield, co-founders of the studio are leaving the company.
In a post by Kotaku, the news for this was brought up weeks before and recently got confirmed by Activision that both are leaving Sledgehammer Games to pursue new projects within Activision. Stated from Activision:
Glen Schofield and Michael Condrey have decided to transition from their duties at Sledgehammer Games to new executive duties inside Activision.
And following with senior development director Aaron Halon to take the position of leading the studio. As Call of Duty: WW2 has lead success in the remaining months of 2017, both Condrey and Schofield have been behind other great projects. Originally working at Visceral behind Dead Space in 2009, later joined Activision to co-develop Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 when Vince Zampella and Jason West were unexpectedly fired, who later opened Respawn Studios with many former developers of Activision.
Starting their new chapter with Activision and with Halon to take lead of the studio, both had to say on the matters via email from Activision with their statements. Condrey: “I’m deeply grateful to the men and women who have poured their passion into the pursuit of excellence with us. I’m proud of what we accomplished together, it has been the greatest experience of my professional life. I am looking forward to starting a new chapter of my career with Activision. I couldn’t be more excited for the future of Sledgehammer Games and look forward to seeing Aaron lead the studio to new heights”
And Schofield: “We thank Activision for the wonderful opportunity to create and lead Sledgehammer Games. Now, it’s time to try other things. Activision has offered me the opportunity to focus my energy on something I’m very passionate about, exploring new game ideas for the company.”
