2024 stand to be a very substantial year for Sonic the Hedgehog. Of course, the third live-action film is underway for this December. Not only that, Shadow the Hedgehog makes his debit on the silver screen. Already, it is confirmed that Keanu Reeves (John Wick, The Matrix) is to voice the ultimate lifeform. Sega also went ahead deeming 2024 ‘The Year of Shadow’ as well.
What makes things even more fitting is the release for Sonic x Shadow Generations. At Summer Game Fest, it was announced the remastered title with an entirely new Shadow the Hedgehog segment is coming this October. The only other fan-requested aspect left to be announced is Chaos. Although it is reported a mobile title is underway, there has yet to be confirmation on the return of the beloved creatures.
And while it remains to be a return to form of Chao Garden for more than two decades, the team is aware of the demand for some form of comeback. Speaking to Video Game Chronicle, studio head Takashi Iizuka is aware of the fan outcry. He does confirm there is no Chao Garden minigame in the coming Sonic x Shadow Generations.
“Thank you for bringing this up, because it is something we want properly communicated so that there’s no confusion! There is no Chao Garden in Sonic X Shadow Generations. […] For those who played Sonic Generations already, there is additional gameplay through this feature [Chao Rescue]. But just to be clear, there’s no Chao Garden in this game.”
Iizuka goes on to note that he is aware of the building demand for chao to return in some capacity in the future. “At some time, yes, because we hear the same thing. Everybody wants it!” Whether he is referencing ‘some time’ to being an entirely new project or the previously reported mobile game is left to conjecture. But that ‘everybody wants it’ does suggest he is eager to manifest it as much as fans are to play it.
