While tensions continued to swell entering into February 2020 from the scare of COVID-19 treading the globe, the movie theaters continued to face new driving figures as Sonic the Hedgehog climbed to be one of the highest grossing, video game-adapted films in history. So much that it even toppled 2019’s Detective Pikachu which originally held that throne. So as you would expect, a follow-up is due to arrive.
As per a report from Variety back in July this past summer, it was indicated that the sequel, presumably titled ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’, would be arriving to theaters in 2022. Aimed for early April, the motion picture already broke the sound barrier online with even Sonic the Hedgehog voice actor Ben Schwartz spilled the beans on the production around the same time.
Now in a recent teaser trailer for the film, Paramount Pictures officially breaks the news for the second movie. You can watch the trailer in the video below:
“Groundbreaking. Thought provoking. Extremely obvious,” reads the description for the short trailer. But from what can be collected from the brief animation work in the footage, it is easily gathered that Tails will be making a theatrical debut in the sequel. If not to say the first film already do that for fans that watch the near year-old film.
Additionally, filming for the sequel is told to commence sometime in March next month. Creative BC Film Commission lists “Emerald Hill” to initiate production in the neighboring month. The title is a placeholder name borrowed from the first level of 1992’s Sonic the Hedgehog 2. You can read the full report by heading here.
Are you happy a second Sonic the Hedgehog movie is underway officially?
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hits theaters on April 8, 2022.
