It might have been pushed aside already from the masses of video game news that have surfaced already weeks prior and following this year’s E3, but it was a monumental moment discovering that both competitors Microsoft and Sony have come to an agreement for a partnership in pursuit to produce better entertainment technology for the coming future.
However, despite the exciting news of the collaboration between the two console giants, it was not disclosed who exactly proposed the upcoming deal between Microsoft and Sony. Assuming we could look at the Xbox company as the initial party that went to create the partnership when looking at Microsoft’s openness to create an “ecosystem” within the industry through crossplay, but in reality it was Sony who approached the American company.
In an interview with magazine Fortune, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella shared that it was primarily Sony who pursued and backed the partnership for Microsoft and Sony to band together.
It’s a beginning for us. First of all, it’s all driven by Sony. They looked at who are all their partners that they can trust. In fact, it turns out, even though we’ve competed, we’ve also partnered.
Following Nadella’s statement, he continues on by explaining that Microsoft is “dependent on their success.” Going into detail that both companies will prosper on creating greater technology in their fields when the two combined minds and use one another’s own services like Microsoft’s Azure AI and Sony’s semiconductors to enhance the current entertainment market.
Though the new deal settled between the two is still fresh after being plucked, don’t expect major results from the partnership so soon as this is a process that time will only be able to tell.
